The teal hopsack ran out in January and the mill weaves it twice a year. The next piece is on the loom now; thirty-two blazers come off it, six in each size and two spare. Leave an address and we will write to you the morning it lands — before the page goes live, and with no obligation at all.

480g teal wool hopsack · half-lined · six ready sizes, S to XL · free UK delivery

Two coating cloths folded against each other on the bench, rust over camel, cut edges square

Weight is the honest number on a coat. Six hundred grammes keeps the rain off in October; eight hundred is what stands up on the platform at Hexham in February.

Buying, posting, sending back

Delivery: what it costs and how long it takes

UK tracked 48-hour: £5.50, free over £150, two working days. UK next day before 1pm: £9.50. Europe: £18, five to eight working days, duties paid at your end. Everything leaves Hexham on the day it is paid for if the order is in before two o'clock.

Returns: thirty days, postage paid

Thirty days on anything ready to wear, unworn and with the ticket on, using the pre-paid label in the parcel. Refunds reach your card within a week of the box arriving. Made-to-measure work is cut for one person and is not returnable — that is what the fitting is for, and why we baste a coat before we sew it.

What a stock line on a card actually means

On a ready piece it is the number of garments in the drawer, counted on Thursday morning. On a made-to-measure piece it is the number of uncut lengths of that cloth on the shelf, which is the real limit — once the cloth is gone we wait for the mill. A sold-out card still shows its price and the date the cloth is expected back.

Alterations, included and otherwise

The first alteration on anything bought here is free within a month: sleeves, hem, waist. Post it back or bring it in. After that, sleeves are £38, a hem £30 and a waist £45. We keep your measurements on a card in the drawer, so the second coat needs no fitting at all.

Sizing: ready sizes against made to measure

Ready sizes run S to XL on a 6cm chest step, with full centimetre tables on the fitting page. Between two sizes, take the larger on a coat and the smaller on a jacket or a shirt. Made to measure changes eleven measurements rather than one, including sleeve pitch and the slope of your shoulders, which is the part a size cannot reach.

Not sure which of the twelve?

Thursday to Saturday, ten until five, 14 Priestpopple. Bring the coat you already wear and we will tell you what is wrong with it.
